We all know movies are awful, but have they always been that way?  I'm going to go out on a ledge and say "probably", but that won't stop me from complaining about the movies of today.  There can be no denying that worthwhile and good movies are few and far between.  Today we're going to try to figure out why.  I've compounded a list of the 5 movies that I think are most responsible for the dearth of good movies that are made today.  If you've seen a bad movie there's a good chance one of these is to blame.

1) Tootsie

If a movie has ever been ruined for you by the appearance of a man in women's clothing, acting (poorly) lke a women, having fake breasts, and generally making you embarassed for your sex, then this is the movie you should be mad at.  How this passes for comedy is beyond me, but it has inspired a legion of copycats of declining quality

Inspired: Mrs. Doubtfire, Mrs. Doubtfire 2 (yes they are making a sequal), Big Momma's House, White Chicks, Sorrority Boys, plenty of others

2) Kazaam

Once this movie hit theatres all barriers were torn down.  No longer was acting a craft pursued by actors alone. Hey if Shaq can act all athletes can act! Well, if athletes can act, why not rappers too? Pop singers?  Every movie you've ever seen that featured someone who was not an actor acting is the fault of this movie.

Inspired:  Space Jam, Crossroads, Anaconda, Deep Blue Sea, All those fucking movies with Jay-Z, XXX 2, and all 800 movies starring Lindsey Lohan.

3) Mr. Nanny

It's a narrow category, I know, but all those family movies where the big tough action star has to watch over some kids for some reason and is in way over his head.  Notice that this movie was made before Kazaam, so perhaps it should be made responsible for both attrotious categories because it featured "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan in the leading role.  Also responsible for action stars attemption comedy roles and drama roles.

Inspired: Kindergarden Cop, The Pacifier, I'll bet there are more.

4) Lethal Weapon

I'm sure there are ealier examples of this, but the whole "cops of different races" thing was probably popularized by this movie.  At this point it's worth noting that not all of the movies on this list are bad, just responsible for a slew of terrible followers.  This one certainly fits the bill on that criteria.  "Hey, look how different we are, we like different music, and we talk differently, and we get things done in a different way, but if we can overcome our differences we might just be friends!" That line is in 5000 movies.  Don't believe me? Look it up.

Inspired: You know damn well what it inspired

5) Funny About Love

What I'm refering to with this title is Romantic Comedy.  Not the pleasant and relatively rare romantic comedies of the 70's and 80's.  This movie is the flash point of the 1990's Romantic Comedy explosion.  It was directed in 1990 by Leonard Nemoy, and since then growth of the genre has been exponential.  It's hard to say what exact movie started it, but I'm going to be a dick and pin it on "Funny About Love", although it's worth noting that "Sleepless in Seattle" could also be to blame.  Regardless, someone must pay.  I believe that these movie have cluttered up our theatres more than any other genre ever.  Don't believe me? Look at this real and official graph:

Inspired: 128 movies this year alone! I pray for our souls

I originally had more, but I forgot as I wrote.  Sorry about being a bit rusty, there'll be a sequal to this one if i remember.  All research done used IMDB.
